Driven+ reviews the Porsche 991.1 Carrera GTS, highlighting it as a sweet spot in the 911 range between the Carrera S and more extreme models like the GT3 and Turbo S. Unlike the later 991.2 GTS, the 991.1 uses a naturally aspirated 3.8-liter flat-six producing 430 horsepower, delivering a more engaging sound and character. Performance is strong, with a claimed 0–60 mph time of about four seconds, which testing confirms is achievable with proper launch technique.
The GTS comes well equipped as standard, including Sport Chrono, Alcantara trim, carbon-fiber accents, and a premium sound system. Its interior balances sportiness with comfort, and despite its performance focus, the car remains practical with small rear seats and a usable front trunk.
On the road, the rear-wheel-drive Carrera GTS offers sharp handling and strong front-end feel, even without rear-wheel steering. It’s less extreme than a GT3 and less clinical than a Turbo S, making it more suitable for everyday driving while still delivering serious performance. With responsive handling, a high-revving engine, and subtle styling, the 991.1 GTS stands out as one of the most complete and usable 911 variants, offering excellent value as a road-focused sports car.
