The Porsche 944 Turbo, launched in 1985, upgraded the already popular 944 with a 2.5L turbocharged engine producing 220 hp—35% more than the standard model—allowing a top speed over 150 mph, comparable to a 3.2L 911 Carrera.
Based on the 924/944 platform, it retained the five-speed rear transaxle and received reinforced running gear, suspension, brakes, and 928-style instrumentation. Visually, changes were minimal: a revised front end, flush windscreen, and rear under-tray improved aerodynamics. Production ended in 1991 with roughly 51,000 units made.
