Porsche’s 911 GTS T-Hybrid Hits 205 MPH on the Autobahn

Porsche has taken a bold step with its new 911 Carrera GTS, which features a hybrid powertrain called the T-Hybrid, which is meant to enhance the car’s performance. The hybrid powertrain consists of a single-turbo 3.6L engine supported by a clever 48V mild-hybrid system.

This includes an electrically assisted turbo that eliminates lag by spinning up instantly at low RPM and an electric motor integrated into the gearbox that adds 54 hp and 150 Nm of torque. A unique detail: instead of a traditional wastegate, the turbo acts as a generator, harvesting up to 11 kW of energy to a 1.9 kWh lithium-ion battery in the front of the car. However, don’t expect to drive it in electric-only mode — this system is strictly for performance enhancement, not fuel saving.

The result is a total output of 541 horsepower and 610 Nm of torque — a 13% bump in power and 7% more torque over the previous GTS. Porsche claims a 0–62 mph time of just 3.0 seconds and a top speed of 194 mph.

To test the new 911 GTS’s true power, the folks from AutoTopNL took it to the German autobahn. During the run, the hybrid 911 achieved 330 km/h on the speedometer, or 205 mph if you prefer.
