This is not your average 4 cylinder Porsche. The 944 Turbo S was a special 1-year only car. Automotive magazines touted it as the fastest 4-cylinder in the world. Back to back track tests against the Porsche 930 showed that the 944 Turbo S was actually faster…and half the price (still nearly $50,000 U.S. new). Porsche rightfully proclaimed: “Not since the 911 Turbo have we transferred a race car so directly into a road car.” These Turbo S cars were a direct descendent of Porsche’s 944 Turbo Cup racing program. They received the coveted M44/52 turbo engine, which produced 247hp and 258 ft-lbs of torque. Furthermore, the cars received the famed Porsche suspension package, internally designated as the M030 option. This package included height adjustable Koni shocks, stiffer torsion bars/torque tube, stiffened sway bars, and lightweight Club Sport forged alloy wheels (7x16 / 9x16). Porsche’s 928 S4 4-piston ABS braking system was also included. To handle this power, the Turbo S got a strengthened transmission (1st and 2nd gears were hardened). An external oil cooler was added for longevity and reliability. A new high-friction clutch was installed to allow for quicker engagement and more precise shifts. Finally, a limited slip differential (with 40% lockup) helped transfer the power to the ground. In total, 1,635 Turbo S cars were built worldwide of which 718 were imported into the U.S. Only 339 of the signature “Silver Rose Edition” cars were delivered to the States.

This Turbo S was sold new on March 24th, 1988 by Metropolitan Porsche + Audi of St. Paul, Minnesota to a Mr. Charles Blossom of Woodbury, Minnesota. It was equipped with the following options from Porsche:

944 Turbo S Option Package:
Larger Turbocharger
M030 Sport Chassis: Koni Adjustable Shocks, Lowered, Larger Sway Bars
7x16 / 9x16 Club Sport Lightweight Forged Alloy Wheels
Anti-lock Brake System
Limited Slip Differential
All Cloth Seats and Door Panels
Full Power Seats
Split Rear Seats
Rear Window Wiper
Headlight Washers
Protective Side Moldings
Hi-Fi Sound System
Special Interior
Blaupunkt Reno Radio
Automatic Speed Control
Removable Sunroof w/Electric Tilt

The total MSRP was $47,084, which is approximately $100k in today’s dollars.

The original owner was an enthusiast and collector. The majority of the miles on this 944 were added in the first 5 or so years of ownership. During that time, this owner also began to grow his collection to include many different marques. By 2017, his collection had grown to over 40 vehicles. 20+ years ago, this 944 was put into the owner’s storage where it stayed until after he passed away in 2017. Last year, the family took it out of storage and took it to their local independent Porsche mechanic to prepare the car for sale. They performed the following services:

Pirelli PZero Rosso tires installed
Fuel pump, screen, and filter
Oil service
Timing Belt and water pump
All drive belts and thermostat
Battery
Steering rack/flush power steering system
Front brake pads and rotors
A/C control switch assembly
A/C receiver, expansion valve, and compressor (system service/recharge)
Performance chip (original included)

The exterior of this Turbo S looks great with minimal signs of use. There are a few small nicks here and there, but nothing major (see pics). The paint is mostly original with a few small areas of touch ups/blending (see paint meter pics). However, visually, it looks perfect and matches great. Touch up could have been done new or at the factory as getting the paint to match on these rare silver rose edition cars was very difficult. There are no indications of accident damage or repairs. The glass is all original including the windshield with the correct markings and no significant blemishes. All the trim and light lenses look good. The wheels have no curb rash and are wearing new Pirelli tires. The front brakes are new and the rear brakes have more than half-life remaining.

The interior looks equally as fresh and original. The rare cloth seats have no tears, stains, or other signs of major wear. The headliner, carpet, and door panels all look near new. The dash has no cracks or warping. All the gauges, buttons, and knobs work properly including the radio and air-conditioning.

This Turbo S comes with original owner’s manuals including maintenance book, original MSRP/window sticker, original marketing brochure including rare Turbo S supplement, factory inspection sheet, original Automobile Magazine new car review article, most service receipts from new, original tool kit, air compressor, cover for sunroof top, jack, and space saver spare. .

We appreciate the countless calls from brokers and dealers. As much as we would love to quickly "wholesale" this car to industry partners so they can make a quick profit, the car is on consignment (as are all of our offerings) and the owners have the final say.

If you have actually taken the time to read this far in our detailed description, I can't imagine there are any questions you may have. However, if there is something I missed or you would prefer to hear the warm sound of a human voice (mine) reiterating the research I've provided above, I would be happy to help.

If you put our company name in Google (Autokennel) you will see that we have been a long time part of the Porsche community and have worked extremely hard to earn the positive reputation you will find. Feel free to reach out to our local PCA chapter (www.pcaocr.org) and the board members are familiar with us. Most in the club have known us for most of our 25-year membership involvement. Of course, if you would like more references, you will find countless testimonials on our website as well.
