The 993 variation of the Porsche 911 has always been regarded as the best of the great “air-cooled” era. These cars had the perfect blend of classic Porsche performance with modest creature comforts. Plus, with the introduction of the VarioRam engine in 1996, the 993 produced even more usable power. The normally aspirated, wide body 993s have been growing in popularity and demand. In particular, the Carrera S (C2S) was the lowest production wide body 993 offered to the U.S. Only 1,752 units were sold between 1997 and 1998 (759 for 1997 and 993 for 1998).

This C2S was built in October of 1997 and delivered new on December 31st, 1997 by the Porsche dealer in Greensboro, North Carolina. Although the wide-body Porsches were nicely equipped with many standard options, this one was also ordered with the following additional factory options:

US standard emissions
Motor/engine sound package
LSD Limited Slip Differential with 40% lock
ABD Automatic Braking Differential (Traction control)
Cassette-radio Becker Porsche CR-210
Racing style sport seats with electric height adjustment
Leather front seats
18" Technology wheels (lightweight hollow spoke)
Rear window wiper
Wheel caps with colored crest
Automatic speed control/cruise control
Hi-Fi sound package with speakers
6-disc CD changer Becker Porsche CDC-3
Electric sunroof
Arctic silver metallic
Porsche floor mats

The original MSRP was $72,027

The first couple of owners lived in North Carolina. They kept the car for nearly a decade/28k-miles. They serviced the car regularly at their local Porsche dealer including the major 30k-mile service. It then spent a year in Ohio and another year in Kentucky where 6k more miles were added before it came out to Southern California in in November of 2009 with 35k-miles. For the last 10-years/8k-miles, it was lightly used and regularly serviced at the local Porsche dealers and top independent shops. These services included:

Routine maintenance/oil services
Brake fluid flushes
A/C system serviced
Tires replaced
Inspections by the Porsche dealer/system checks

Furthermore, a Bilstein suspension was recently installed including sway bar drop links.

The exterior of this C2S looks fantastic and has obviously been well cared-for over the years. There are no signs of damage or abuse and minimal signs of use. When the car was sold new, an early version of a clear bra was installed. It covers the front bumper and leading edge of the hood and front fenders. It has a slight discoloration to it. There are a few very minor nicks (see pics). The majority of the paint appears to be original and verified with a paint meter (see pics). The right front and right rear have had some light paintwork, but no signs of damage or filler. The difference is only noticed with a meter. The glass is all original and in very good shape. The windshield is also original and has a small chip in the center (see pic). The trim and lenses are all in excellent condition. All the exterior lights work properly. The wheels are in good shape with a couple minor blemishes (see pics). They are wearing near new Michelin Pilot Sport tires and the brakes have around 75% life remaining.

The interior is equally as nice and shows minimal signs of wear. The leather sport seats have no rips or tears and just mild wear on the exit bolsters. The headliner, back seats, carpet, and door panels are all in excellent condition. The dash has no cracks or warping. All the gauges work properly. The power windows, mirrors, and sunroof all work properly. The A/C system blows very cold. The Bluetooth Alpine radio was recently installed and it works great. The original radio and amplifier (see pic) were carefully removed and they worked before being replaced. A K40 integrated radar detector was probably installed when the car was new. It powers up and appears to work.

We just had our mechanic put the car on the lift and inspect the chassis (see pics). We both agree that there are no signs of any prior or current damage. Also, he remarked it was one of the driest examples he’s seen.

This C2S drives fantastic. It starts easily on the first try with no excessive smoking. The exhaust has a nice rumble, but not too loud and it does not drone. The throttle response is immediate and it revs freely. The transmission shifts smoothly with no grinding or slipping. The handling is tight and responsive with excellent turn in as well as tracking straight. The brakes have nice initial bite with no fading or pulling. This 993 could easily be used daily, on touring events, or even showing. It’s fun, comfortable, and very well sorted.

This Porsche comes with all the owner’s manuals, original maintenance book, 2 keys with remotes, tool kit, space saver spare tire, jack, air compressor, original MSRP/window sticker, original radio/amp, and car cover with duffle bag.
