Ever since the company first opened its doors for business in 1948, Porsche sports cars have epitomised the sporting side of driving. Indeed, Porsche’s Le Mans debut in 1951 cemented the company’s future as a manufacturer of race orientated sports cars and ever since, motor racing has remained a driving force behind its vehicle development. Five and a half decades later, Porsche once again stood on the podium having racked up their 18th victory in the Le Mans 24-Hour race.
Porsche can claim more than 30,000 race victories in almost every motorsport series worldwide. While many of these successes have been achieved with powerful prototype race cars such as the 917 and 956, it is the iconic 911 sports coupe that has formed the bedrock on which the enviable racing reputation of the Stuttgart marque has been built.
