Background
The 2016 RUF Turbo (often seen in Turbo R or Turbo R Limited form) is RUF’s re-engineered take on the 997-generation Porsche 911 Turbo. Unlike most tuners, RUF is a manufacturer, and the Turbo R Limited cars are built either from bare bodies-in-white or comprehensively reworked factory chassis. The result is a supercar-level package that feels more raw than Porsche’s own Turbo S of the era, yet more polished than earlier RUF monsters like the BTR or CTR2.
Engine / Performance
- Twin-turbocharged 3.8L flat-six (derived from the Metzger architecture, heavily reinforced and tuned by RUF).
- 620–645 hp (depending on spec)
- Turbo R Limited models commonly quoted around 620 hp and 575 lb-ft (780 Nm).
- 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) in the low 3-second range.
- Traction from AWD makes launches brutally effective.
- Top speed: Around 330 km/h (205 mph), though RUF often understates potential.
The 2016 Turbo blends huge straight-line thrust with a more analog feel than Porsche’s PDK-equipped Turbo S. Many were built with a 6-speed manual, making them unicorns in a world of fully automated supercars.
Engineering / Chassis
RUF-tuned AWD system (more rear-biased behavior than stock 997/991 Turbo).
Suspension
Fully re-valved dampers and firmer bushings give sharper turn-in without ruining road comfort.
Aerodynamics
RUF front spoiler, rear wing, and ducting optimized for high-speed stability.
Brakes
Optional carbon ceramics; steel rotors were still standard for road-feel purists.
Summary
Compared with Porsche’s factory tune, the RUF Turbo has a more communicative steering feel, especially at the limit, and a less filtered drivetrain response.
