1972 Porsche 914-6 GT

Classic Showcase is pleased to announce our second customized 914-6 GT Tribute build is now finished, and available for purchase. As with our restored 1972 Shark Blue 914-6 GT example, this 914-6 GT features welded-on metal flares. The Porsche also features a Porsche 2.4-cylinder engine, a 5-speed Porsche 901 sideshift transmission, as well as a number of other mechanical and aesthetic upgrades! We started the restoration process by disassembling the 914-6 and cataloging all parts and components before stripping it down to bare metal. For this Porsche we chose to use a finish of Racing Yellow and will retain the car’s stock Black interior.

As with our Shark Blue 914-6 GT, this example was the recipient of a number of impressive mechanical upgrades, including being converted from a 4-cylinder layout to that of a 6; The conversion required a number of adjustments made to our usual restoration process. To accommodate the increased power, the hydraulic system was upgraded with disc brakes and larger rotors to help accommodate better braking response. The engine was joined with a 5-speed Porsche 901 Sideshift transmission, clutch system, and resurfaced flywheel. In addition, the Porsche also features Weber carburetors, a new wire harness, 914-6 oil tank (with custom lines), engine mounts, and new sheet metal throughout. The Porsche rests atop a set of 5-lug period-correct Fuchs Turbo wheels mounted on a fresh set of new period-correct tires that will be great for the track, as well as your favorite weekend drive.

The Porsche’s interior was also restored as well, and all other restorative work has been completed. The instruments were be rebuilt, as was the 914-6 ‘s speedometer and tachometer; While the interior remains mostly stock, we added sound deadening to reduce the noise and heat for an improved driving experience. A period correct Blaupunkt “Frankfurt” AM-FM push-button stereo system was also installed.
