1972 Porsche 914-6

Classic Showcase is pleased to announce that the comprehensive nut-and-bolt restoration of this 914-6 GT is now complete! The fantastic Show-Driver level restoration of this 2-owner from new 1972 Porsche 914, upgraded to a 914-6 GT re-creation, is now available to those looking for a truly special and unique Porsche. This performance-minded restoration features steel, welded-on metal flares all the way around, as well as a rebuilt 2.2L Porsche 911 6-cylinder engine, an upgraded 5-speed Porsche 901 Sideshift transmission, and a host of other mechanical and aesthetic upgrades. This is a one of a kind 914 GT example with not only an awesome and unique look, but unmatched performance as well!

We started the process by carefully disassembling the Porsche and cataloging all parts and components before stripping it down to bare metal. The team chose a beautifully vibrant modern Porsche color called “Shark Blue” for this 914-6 GT, and decided to retain the car’s stock Black interior color.

The 914-6 was the recipient of a number of impressive mechanical upgrades, including a full conversion from a 4-cylinder engine layout to that of a Porsche 911 6-cylinder. The conversion required a number of adjustments to our usual restoration process, but the team loved the challenge and made great progress with this endeavor. We sourced and acquired an engine from a 70’s Porsche 911 and mated it with a built 5-speed Porsche 901 Sideshift transmission, new clutch system, and resurfaced flywheel. In addition, the Porsche features Weber carburetors, a brand new wire harness, a 914-6 oil tank with custom lines, 911 engine mounts, and new sheet metal throughout as well as new trim/brightwork throughout. To accommodate the increased power, the hydraulic system was upgraded with a Willwood big brake system with larger rotors to help accommodate better braking response. The Porsche rests atop a set of 5-lug factory Fuchs Turbo wheels in 16”x7” and 16”x8”, mounted on a fresh set of new Pirelli tires that will be great for the track, as well as your favorite public roads!

The Porsche’s interior was completely restored as well. The instruments were rebuilt, as was the 914-6 speedometer and tachometer that was sourced and installed. While the interior is mostly stock, it features a sound deadening material to reduce the noise and heat for an improved driving experience along with a period-correct Blaupunkt “Frankfurt” AM-FM push-button stereo system.
