Porsche 911 (996.2) GT3

In the early 1960s when the 911 was developed, its new two-litre flat-six engine was built primarily with competition in mind – it could be enlarged (eventually to 3.8 litres!) and it was dry sumped, the external oil tank ensuring oil pressure in all conditions. This air-(or more accurately oil-) cooled engine was the basis of Porsche motorsport until well into the 1990s.
